Blanche Barton Interviewed in Los Angeles
This video is part of the source material for my film project ”Anton LaVey – Into the Devil’s Den” (2019). The interview was also used for my book Anton LaVey and the Church of Satan (2022).
In the interview, Blanche Barton discusses her experiences with Anton LaVey's writings, particularly "The Compleat Witch" and "The Satanic Witch." She reflects on how LaVey's humor and acceptance of women's diverse body types resonated with her, emphasizing that women have inherent power and should utilize it. Barton notes that LaVey understood human nature, fetishes, and the dynamics of attraction, advocating for authenticity over artificiality in personal expression.
Barton addresses the perception of LaVey's work as a backlash against unisex feminism of the 1960s, arguing that his insights are timeless and relevant today. She believes his ideas about the interplay between masculine and feminine energies remain significant in contemporary culture, as evidenced by the resurgence of neo-burlesque and certain fashion trends that align with LaVey's principles. Ultimately, she appreciates that LaVey witnessed the emergence of these cultural movements, highlighting his role as an innovator whose ideas continue to influence society.
