It's Just Another Magic Monday
Today is Monday, so that means there’s a new ”Magic Monday” post on the Patreon I have together with my wife, Vanessa Sinclair. This week’s post is a transcribed talk that I presented at Watkins online recently, and having to do with my anthology of occultural essays, Source Magic – The Origin of Art, Science & Culture. It was a lovely evening, and I hope that our Patreon patrons will enjoy reading it.
You can join our Patreon right HERE (the Magic Monday material is available for those with a $5 membership and up).
Here’s a little taster:
”Throughout my life I’ve allowed myself to be attracted to many things, and to delve into deeper layers of the whys and why nots of this attraction, and of the phenomenon itself. Usually it has had to do with ”Occulture,” meaning the intersection between esoteric theory and practice and how underground streams move into the mainstream through the process of occulturation. But I’ve never really been thematically ”occult” for its own sake, because early on I could see patterns where cultural phenomena in the overground as well as in the underground had other origins than the strictly occult but still had a similar impact on the human psyche. Books, music, films etc can lift us, empower us, and reveal things within our deepest layers. And also attract cultic followings thanks to this, where you can come back to fill your cup again, alone or together with other devotees.
A concrete example of this in my own life was reading Ray Bradbury as a young teenager, which I would say opened my mind to the literally fantastic and unexpected, and in which the protagonists were often kids like myself. Another example would be reading Lovecraft slightly later, which brought in darker and more cosmic themes of monsters that could just as well be unconscious as external. And then of course movies and music and other expressions that gradually made me interested not only in the unconscious and cosmic but also in how to possibly manipulate or get to know these forces. And then I hit the occult occult stuff. And here we are!”
Every week there’s a new post about magic, either by me or Vanessa (and sometimes by us both). Once a year we anthologize the posts in book form. The first two volumes are available here:
It’s Magic Monday Every Day of the Week (2022)
We May Need to Call on Our Cosmic Friends (2023)

I really relate to your eloquent definition of ‘occulture’ Carl.
